Meet the practitioners

Amanda Reid, RM, BSCN, IBCLC
Lactation Consultant

I went to UBC for my degree in Nursing and worked as an RN on and off while pursuing my midwifery path, and continued to volunteer internationally during my time at UBC. I ended up apprenticing as a midwife in Bali, Indonesia while volunteering at a birthing clinic there.

I have worked in rural Ontario, Vancouver and now on the Sunshine Coast and am into my second decade of practice. What drew me back here was a love of nature, an appreciation for a slower pace which allows me to devote more time to families in my care, and the wonderful fellow care providers I get to work with here. My practice is based out of Sechelt. I recently obtained my license as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, so all families I work with have the added advantage of my extensive knowledge and support with breast feeding.

I also provide Lactation Consultant services in Vancouver and across the Lower Mainland and am excited to work with families along the entire breast/chest/feeding spectrum and to bring these services to families at Pomegranate Community Midwives. Please speak to your midwife to book an appointment with me any time during pregnancy and to 6wks postpartum. Alternatively, you can contact me directly on my contact form.

Janelle Fontaine, RMT (she/her)
Registered Massage Therapist & Postpartum Doula

I have been a practicing registered massage therapist since 2010 and in 2017 I became a postpartum doula. Over the years, my massage practice has evolved from a general practice to a focus on women’s health and perinatal care, specifically postpartum care (including scar tissue management during cesarean recovery). I am passionate about empowering and educating my clients to help them reach their wellness goals.

If you are curious about my approach to treatment or would like more information about the postpartum period and how I can support you, have a look at my website or my instagram. There you will find my online presence and you can get a real sense of who I am and my approach to care.

Whether you are expecting a baby, have just had a little one or have nothing to do with babies, I look forward to working with you.

I will be at Pomegranate Thursdays from 8am-2:30pm and Fridays from 1pm-7:30pm. To book an appointment, please visit my website or click here.

Jodie Pulsifer, RPT (she/her)
Physiotherapist

Jodie is a Registered Physiotherapist who has been practicing since 2012. She has practiced exclusively in the area of Pelvic Health since 2015. She provides virtual support for anybody living in BC and in person care in East Vancouver. Jodie is a passionate clinical instructor and advocate for pelvic health, maternal wellbeing and gender inclusive care. She has been actively involved in a number of research knowledge translation projects and plays a number of roles with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia and the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia.

Jodie has practiced closely with midwives at Pomegranate, Huckleberry and throughout Metro Vancouver to support pregnant people to get and stay physically active, prepare for birth, prevent birth injuries and recover from all forms of delivery, including traumatic births, miscarriage and infant loss. Jodie believes that listening, communication and the use of language are some of the most critical tools healthcare providers have and should not be taken lightly. Jodie is passionate about care that considers your unique experience in your body, including healthcare inequities and social injustice. Jodie believes that community based care is foundational to our health and loves to offer group exercise classes to foster connection alongside her physiotherapy practice.

Outside her clinical practice you will find Jodie trying to soak in the goodness of life amidst the chaos that being a parent of small humans brings.

You can read more about Jodie and her colleagues at Full Circle Physiotherapy. Appointments with Jodie can be booked directly online.

Tanya Podlozniuk, MC RCC
Counsellor

My approach to therapy is to create a calming and supportive connection with you so that we can address the complex emotions that come with pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

For the last ten years I’ve worked with people who are pregnant or postpartum and feeling anxious, overwhelmed, lost, or just not themselves. I understand how pregnancy and birth can impact your mental health.

It’s important to work with someone who understands the challenges that come during all aspects of the reproductive journey. I’ve done research in this field, I’ve grown into a parent myself, and I’ve supported hundreds of parents towards a happier, more adjusted postpartum period.

My graduate research focused on cross-cultural understandings of postpartum adjustment. In North America we don’t have a recognized postpartum period. In other cultures, the postpartum period is recognized in the same way we would recognize a bereavement period.

So, just like we wouldn’t expect someone who’s grieving to cope by themselves, we shouldn’t expect someone to cope during the postpartum period on their own. You may have physical support from your partner, your family, and your community, but you may be coping with the emotional aspects all by yourself. It’s difficult- not because there is something wrong but because this overwhelming transformation is too big to grapple with on your own.

I believe that most of the time the source of your emotional discomfort is not biological but situational. I see people have success when they process their uncomfortable feelings and view themselves in a more empowering way. Therapy helps to integrate your experiences to make them feel more manageable.

I’m a mother of two young kids. My experiences of being pregnant, birthing, and growing in to the parent I am today were transformative and challenging. My graduate research helped me understand that what I was experiencing was normal, but it reminded me that nobody has an easy time. My own experiences help me go deeper in my practice and my work with clients.
