URGENT calls 604-255-5556 + team extension + 0
Call anytime. *This will route you directly to the on-call midwife for your team*
- If they cannot safely answer their phone, leave a message when prompted.
- If you don’t get a response within 15-20 minutes, call again.
- If you still don’t get a response within another 15 minutes, please call urgently to another team.
- If you have no response from any of us, call Labor & Delivery at the nearest hospital, inform them of your situation and ask for help: BCWH (604) 875-3070 / BURNABY (604) 412-6293
NON-URGENT issues
We encourage you to keep a written list of questions and bring it to your clinic visits. We also encourage you to check out the Resource page of our website, which has info about common pregnancy issues/questions.
- TEXTING: Texting is not a secure, confidential or efficient way to communicate with your midwife, and there is no way to ensure that you are sending a text to the on-call midwife versus someone who is off-call (and has their phone off). Please avoid texting unless you have specifically agreed with your midwife to connect this way.
- REDIAL WITH CALLER ID: If you have call-display, you may have access to our home or cell phone numbers. Whether your call is URGENT or NON-URGENT, we ask that you still always go through the voicemail directory, as this is the best way to reach the correct midwife, as well as being the least disturbing to our families.
- TEST RESULTS: We always call abnormal lab results to you as soon as we receive them. If you page before we can review them, we will not be able to offer much, if any, advice. While we encourage clients to be proactive in their own healthcare, including signing up for myehealth.ca to view results online, please keep in mind that these results need to be interpreted in the context of pregnancy, so may be flagged online as abnormal when they are not. Also, not all results are available this way.
